The battle within is always hard to compete, and it fits perfectly on Xiaomi at the moment. Why? Well, because it’s just too good to handle for itself! New phones are coming anytime from this China-based smartphone maker and there are so much budget-oriented phones now that consumers have been caught up in a dilemma-which Xiaomi phone is the best among each other?
Is it good for the #1 Smartphone brand in India, that it’s facing such a problem? Definitely not.
But as was mentioned above, its just coming out with new phones almost every second month, and the most recent products by the company were the new line-up of it’s successful, Mi A series, which offers stock Android experience to those users who are not interested in the MIUI skinned android version of Xiaomi itself.
So, the phone which was launched was Mi A2 which is the successor to last year’s A1 and is an Android One device. And the moment this phone came out in India, it has shocked the existing users of Redmi Note 5 Pro! Why?
Because, its giving almost the same specs as Note 5 Pro, but with better performance and of course, the camera too.
The Face-Off :
Now, placing both these phone face to face, it will become more clear to have a better comparison. Redmi Note 5 Pro was launched in India in February, this year, with a brilliant 5.99inch Full HD+ display (1080x2160p of resolution) and a large 4000mAh battery.
On the other hand, Mi A2 was launched last month, in July, with similar 5.99inch Full HD+ display (and 1080x2160p of resolution), but a slightly smaller battery of 3000mAh.
Mi Note 5 Pro offers a powerful and efficient, Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 octa-core processor, whereas Mi A2 offers an even better one, Snapdragon 660 octa-core chipset-both clocking at 1.8GHz!
Though the Mi A2 comes with a smaller sized battery, the durability is subject to use of a user, and generally, it lasts a day-Note 5 Pro just gives you a little extra juice, being a 4000mAh battery phone.
When it comes to storage, then Mi A2 comes only with a 4GB/64GB variant as of now (the company will introduce a 6GB variant later)-the storage can be expanded.
Note 5 Pro also comes with a 4GB/64GB variant which can be expanded upto 128GB.
Both the phones offer options for MicroSD cards and dual-SIM support (4G+4G).
Coming towards the OS platforms, then here, Mi A2 offers the latest Android Oreo 8.1 (stock), while Note 5 Pro is still on Android Nougat 7.1.1 (layered with MIUI 9).
Sadly, Mi A2 doesn’t have a 3.5mm audio and also there is no FM Radio, while there is one on the Note 5 Pro and an audio jack too. But Mi A2 has an option of NFC. Both the phones have WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth (v5.0) and other important connectivity features.
But the most important department is of the camera, and here, things become very tricky.
Redmi Note 5 Pro offers a dual-rear camera setup of 12MP+5MP and a 20MP front camera amazing selfies.
On the other hand, Mi A2 also offers a dual-rear camera setup, but of 12MP+20MP, and a 20MP front camera for great selfies. It has the AI beauty 4.0 technology.
Well, its this factor which separates the two, but barely-creating complications among the consumers.
There is always tension in buying the Note 5 Pro as it is not always available (and is only available in flash sales, mostly), via Flipkart. While the Mi A2 has been made available from today via an online portal, Amazon.
But coming straight to the prices, then Note 5 Pro comes for Rs.14,999 for the base version (4GB/64GB) and Mi A2 will be available for Rs.16,999 for 4GB/64GB base model.
Now, you will think that Mi A2 costs higher-but not that much and that’s what has created a big complication for Xiaomi. Because both the phones are brilliant for what they offer, and are just narrowly separated in prices.
Will you go for the Mi A2, for stock Android and greater camera or for the MIUI skinned experience and larger battery provided by Note 5 Pro?
